EU’s Clean Industrial Deal Must Ensure Green Fuels for the Green Transition of the Shipping Sector

The European Commission has launched a plan aimed at strengthening Europe’s com­pe­ti­ti­ve­ness and green transition. Danish Shipping welcomes the focus on increasing and lowering the cost of renewable energy but also highlights the need for a much stronger effort from the EU to scale up the production of green fuels, particularly for shipping.

Denmark Maintains Its Position Among the World's Best-Performing Flag States

The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has just published its annual Flag State Performance Table. As usual, Denmark ranks among the very top and is one of only fourteen countries to achieve a positive score across all criteria in the assessment.

Positive signals in the EU’s Compass to regain competitiveness – now we need to see action

Under the leadership of Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission has presented a plan to strengthen the EU's com­pe­ti­ti­ve­ness, which is under pressure, particularly from the US and China. Denmark and a majority in the UN Security Council demand that the Houthis cease their attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea

The UN Security Council demands an immediate end to Houthi attacks on civilian vessels in the Red Sea. This was stated in a new resolution. Denmark’s UN ambassador condemns the Houthi attacks as well as the continued detention of the Galaxy Leader and its 25 crew members.

Fewer Pirate Attacks in 2024, but Rising Number of Seafarer Hostage-Takings Cause Concern

Globally, there were slightly fewer pirate attacks in 2024 compared to the previous year. Notably, the Gulf of Guinea has seen a significant decline in the number of attacks since 2020. However, piracy remains a serious threat to seafarers, particularly with a sharp rise in the number of hostage-takings being a cause for concern.
